George Blackmon, M.A. - Education Director for Northwood

George Blackmon

George is a native of Indiana. He has been in the Washington, DC metro area for three years. He received a B.S in Elementary and Special education from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri. He also has a master'€™s degree in Education administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. George has seven years of experience serving the needs of children with many types of development disabilities in various educational settings. His research interests are: inclusionary practices, best practices for teaching students with developmental delays, and organizational growth. In his spare time, George enjoys painting, museums, and playing video games.

Josh Sarracino, B.A. - Assistant Director for School Operations

Josh Sarracino

 

 

 

 

Josh Sarracino has worked for the CSAAC Community School of Maryland for 8 years as a Teacher Assistant, Special Education Teacher, and Assistant Director for School Operations. On top of managing the daily oversight of school operations, he is also responsible for transition planning and community vocational supports for the transition-aged students enrolled at CSM.  Josh graduated with honors from Rowan University in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in Communications and a specialization in writing. He received his MBA with a specialization in non-profit executive and organizational management from Indiana Wesleyan University.  He also serves as a consultant for outside agencies on the development and implementation of training modules and materials for educational and non-educational staff working with students diagnosed with autism.

Marcia Smith, Ph.D - Assistant Executive Director of Programs

Dr. Marcia Smith

Dr. Smith has served as the lead psychologist at CSAAC since 1981 and in addition has directed federal research grants and worked on federal model program and replication grants awarded to CSAAC. Dr. Smith was awarded a Mary Switzer Senior Research Fellowship by the National Institute of Handicapped Research and in 1989, her work at CSAAC was recognized with the Governor of Maryland's €œHealth Care Professional of the Year€ award. Dr. Smith has authored several books, including Autism and Life in the Community. She has also written book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles. Dr. Smith has been an invited speaker throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.

Larissa Reynolds, Ph.D

Dr. Larissa Reynolds has been a licensed psychologist in Maryland since 1998. She earned her Ph.D in clinical psychology from Louisiana State University in 1996. She completed a pre-doctoral internship through Brown University and postdoctoral fellowship in the Pediatric Feeding Disorders Program at the Kennedy Krieger Institute.

Anca Lapos has a Master of Science from Hood College. She joined the Community School of Maryland in early 2010.

Kate Patterson, M.S. - Teacher

Kate Patterson joined the Community School of Maryland in July of 2010. Kate worked for three years at the New England Center for Children (NECC), a private school for children with autism, in their residential program, teaching nine high school aged boys with severe autism. While at NECC, Kate also pursued a master’s degree in Special Education at Simmons College in Boston, MA, specializing in severe need/autism. After graduating from her program, Kate spent one year at the Forbush Therapeutic Preschool in Towson, MD, but missed working with high school students.

Nikki Margolis, B.S. - Teacher

Nikki Margolis is going on her third year as a special education teacher at CSAAC. She was at the Brookeville campus for 2 years and is currently at the Northwood Highschool campus. Nikki graduated Towson University with a degree in psychology in 2000. Currently Nikki is pursuing her Masters in Special education at John's Hopkins University. Nikki is currently certified in special education in the state of Maryland.

Scott Murtha, B.A. - Teacher

Scott Murtha is a Special Education teacher at the Community School of Maryland. Scott has a B.A. in psychology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and is currently taking classes to continue his education. Scott has several years of experience working with individuals with Autism. He also has a number of years experience working with children in general.

Maxine Weitzner, M.A. CCC-SLP - Speech Language Pathologist

Maxine has been working as a Speech-Language Pathologist since 1984. During that time she has worked primarily in the areas of language and cognitive development, as well as articulation. Her experiences include language and articulation therapy, and development of augmentative communication systems. Maxine has worked in a variety of settings which include special education, public schools and hospitals, as well as private practice..

Margaret Jones, B.S. SLP-A - Speech Language Pathologist

Margaret is a licensed speech language pathologist assistant and graduate clinician. She has a B.S. in Communication Science and Disorders. She also has teaching degree in special education with an emphasis in hearing impairment. Margaret has worked as an SLP-A in a school and medical settings.
