CSAAC held a beautiful memorial service on Friday, July 27th honoring the passing of Douglas “Doug” A. Wurdack on July 3rd. Doug was a member of CSAAC’s residential family since 1997. In Doug’s honor, CSAAC planted a White Weeping Cherry Tree on the grounds of CSAAC-East Village. The memorial service was attended by CSAAC associates and Doug’s family; his brother Kenneth Wurdack, his wife and two daughters. Eric Salzano, Executive Director, opened the service with kind words about Doug and his struggles with autism, Oluwafemi Oluyeye, his weekday staff associate, spoke fondly of Doug and how he was with him during his final hours and attended the small service Doug’s family held for him in PA. Donald Keita, his weekend staff associate, shared stories about Doug with all of us. Other stories about Doug were shared by his brother Ken. In the closing remarks, Eric Salzano, read a poem called “High Flight” by John Gillespie Magee, Jr. A truly endearing poem that has Doug’s soul escaping from the heavy burdens of life to soar the skies with nothing less than joy. Truly a blessed day for Doug to be remembered and loved by his CSAAC family.
